Located in Dogpatch, a former industrial garment manufacturing district near San Francisco’s Design Center in Potrero Hill, Atelier Sutra makes clothes from vintage and deadstock textiles.

Designer Julia Fry studied costume design, worked for the music industry, evening wear in NYC, and her own collections California. Her passion for vintage textiles, comes from vintage curtain panels and table linens, the quality and patterns found in fabrics made for other uses, upholstery damasks, hand crocheted laces, washed silk taffeta.

Everything starts by washing the fabric in house-made natural laundry formulas to gently clean the fabric and watch it come back to life. Make clothes, wash clothes repeat.

Atelier Sutra is open Saturdays from 10–5, and by appointment at workroom@ateliersutra.com
